Chaska's 13th Birthday

Chaska celebrated her 13th birthday here in Santa Maria, complete with 20 plus friends, her cousin, who led the ceremony, playing tunes on his keyboard to accompany the games, her first-ever piƱata, and plenty of food. It was a great time for all and everyone was very quiet during the prayer. God bless you, Chaska, as you continue to grow during your TEENAGE years!!!

Here she is: our teenager, Chaska, with her precious dog, Alaska

Medical Campaign

The medical campaign on September 28-29 was a big success. It happened to be the weekend of the church’s anniversary here in Santa Maria, so that went on simultaneously. All 9 doctors were a great help. The dentist attended to 70 patients; in many cases, he just did fluoride treatments. In others he pulled teeth; one woman even had three teeth pulled. That is the usual treatment here. Nobody knows much about oral hygiene. The obstetriz had 14 patients and won three of them to Christ! Other specialties included pediatrics, general medicine, nutrition, and the pharmacy.

The dentist did flouride treatments and extractions. He is a university professor.

The obstetriz counseled women and won three to the Lord!

Lucilla, in the center, was the one who helped organize the campaign with ACSA, Associación Cristiana de Salud.

The nutritionist, also a university professor, counseled many people,
even the local pastor and his wife!

A lot of people waited to be seen by the general practicioner. The Lord favored us with good weather all day both days.

The Church in Santa Maria

Eight children participated again in the Sunday School. Two from last week did not show, but two new ones did. They ranged in age from 4 to 13. Some had studied their memory verse (John 3:16) and said it very well. If there were a way to have a more in-depth study for the older ones, it would be good.

Pastor Quirino wants to learn to really use his Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible. Please pray for him. He and his family are such a blessing to us.

WONDERFUL NEWS FROM THE ANDES!

Great things are happening here in Sta. Maria, as the medical campaign begins to fall into place. We went to the school this past week for a PTA-type meeting. About 16 parents of the 25 total were there. Not too bad. There are 30 students in the school, but the school itself is perfect for the campaign. Then a pastor and 4 parishioners came from Huancayo, a large town about an hour away last night for evening service. They will help and try to get young people from their church involved, too. We still have a lot of logistics to take care of. Please keep praying!

Chaska is having a ball and being very helpful, taking out the pig in the wee hours of the morning and helping to milk the cows this evening.

Augusto and his brother strung electrical cable from the main switch to our house today and put window panes (14) in our front door. It won't get as cold in the kitchen at night now.

Carolyn tutored a 16-yr-old in English today, while her mother washed our clothes!

It is wonderful to live next door to Augusto's brother, Quirino and his family, all of whom love and serve our risen Lord.

Blessed be the LORD, who daily pours His blessings upon us!!!

Truly it is the grace of God that keeps us and makes us content here in this very cold place. We had hail last Sunday and rain storms the next two days. God is preparing the ground for planting...and for us to break ground for a room addition. He is soooo wise.

We love you. Thanks for tuning in! Augusto, Carolyn, Chaska, and Alaska

P.S. We are happy that Alaska has found a mate who keeps her warm so that she sleeps through the night now. Yippee!!!!

OUR FIRST TWO WEEKS IN PERU

We arrived along with our 13 duffles and suitcses and 3 carry-ons. Were thrilled not to have to worry about when the rest of our luggage would arrive.

Spent several days looking into documents necessary for Carolyn's residence visa, getting new glasses for Augusto and Carolyn, and picking up the newest member of our family (see photo below). Her name is Alaska. Then, this past week we picked up medicines (some we bought and some were donated) for a medical campaign scheduled for Sept 28-29. It looks to be a lot of work, but we got good orientation from people who have done this before. We are asking for a general practitioner, a gynecologist, a pediatrician, and a dentist. We hope it will be a big blessing to many people in and around Santa Maria and that many will hear the Word and believe on the Lord and be healed both physically and spiritually.

This week we expect to travel to Santa Maria, a seven hour bus ride. We are still looking for the a truck which will take our duffle bags, medicines, a mattress, the dog house, and a few other things we will be purchasing before we travel.

Sing, O heavens! Be glad, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted the people, and will have mercy on His afflicted. Isaiah 49:13

As always we thank you for your prayers and concern. God bless you!!!
